Facial recognition has established itself as one of the most effective technologies for enhancing security, optimizing processes and improving the user experience in corporate, industrial and critical environments. It is not enough to install a camera: its effectiveness depends on a correct technical, operational and strategic implementation.
With more than 25 years developing proprietary technology in video surveillance, access control and artificial intelligence, at SCATI we know that the success of facial recognition is not only in the camera or the algorithm, but in the details: image quality, device location, enrollment process and intelligent exploitation of the data.
Enrollment: the invisible pillar of success
A bad initial image can compromise the entire system. Facial recognition is only as powerful as the database it works with so these guidelines should be followed when capturing user images:
Key recommendations for a valid image:
- Passport-style photograph: face facing forward, neutral background, good lighting.
- Fully visible face: no dark glasses, hats, masks or hair covering key parts of the face.
- Single image, with a neutral or slightly smiling expression.
- Sufficient resolution to maintain sharpness when cropping the face.
- Preferably, visible ears.
This type of image allows the system to achieve match rates of over 90% and reduce false rejections or acceptances.
The right camera, properly installed, changes everything.
Conventional cameras are not optimized for facial recognition. That is why SCATI develops proprietary cameras with embedded analysis technology and Deep Learning algorithms that guarantee reliable capture even in motion, with light variations or from less than ideal angles.
Correct installation is key. Position, height, orientation and environmental conditions directly influence the quality of the capture. For an effective capture:
- Position the camera at face level, with a maximum tilt angle of 10°.
- Ensure a front or semi-front view, without backlighting or reflective glass.
- Use the appropriate optics for the distance to the subject (see SCATI guidelines).
- Consider using infrared lighting in low-light areas..
The goal is to capture clean, sharp faces that allow the system to identify quickly, without user interaction.
Beyond access: data transformed into intelligence
SCATI’s facial recognition solution is not limited to identification. It adds value by integrating with the video surveillance and access control platform, and by generating useful information for other areas of the business.
Differential advantages:
- Centralized management of face lists and permissions from a single platform.
- Integration with third-party systems through open APIs.
- Dashboards with demographic statistics, behavior patterns and user traceability through SCATI RECKON.
- Automatic activation of protocols or events according to defined rules.
All this information can be exploited to improve the user experience, optimize processes and make strategic decisions based on real data.
Banking and finance
Access control to vaults or restricted areas.

Logistics and industry
Operator control, traceability and safety enhancement in production environments.

Retail and shopping centers
Customer identification, capacity control, and behavior analysis.

Transportation and airports
Contactless biometric validation and streamlined boarding processes.

Critical infrastructure
Protection of strategic facilities and centralized access control.

The SCATI platform allows you to manage all elements of the system from a single point: cameras, users, access rules, alerts, reports and dashboards.
Our solution is designed to scale according to each customer’s needs and adapt to demanding environments, complying with cybersecurity, GDPR, and operational continuity regulations.
Implementing a facial recognition system is much more than installing cameras. It means adopting an intelligent approach to security based on data, efficiency, and automation. When designed well from the outset, it becomes a strategic tool for digital transformation.
