Video surveillance: Eyes that do not rest.

Video surveillance has long been a mainstay of retailers’ security strategy. However, modern technologies have taken this tool to new levels of efficiency and effectiveness.

High-resolution cameras, facial recognition technology and advanced video analytics enable retailers to not only monitor real-time activity, but also identify patterns of behavior, recognize known offenders and prevent theft and robbery.

Video surveillance can also significantly improve the customer shopping experience. Stores can use video data to better understand customer shopping habits, optimize store design, and provide more personalized and efficient service.

Traceability of operations: A picture is worth a thousand words.

Retail is evolving and it is becoming increasingly common to see the implementation of self-service checkouts in commercial establishments as they represent a great optimization of resources. However, it is necessary to implement measures to monitor operations to prevent fraud.

The versatility of video systems allows their integration with POS (Point of Sale Terminals), to associate images to any transaction at the cash register and guarantee the traceability of operations. Locating images associated with any transaction at any cash register in just a few seconds is possible and minimizes fraud.

Business Intelligence: converting data from your decision systems

Technology is redefining the customer shopping experience and enabling brands to learn about their customers and their consumption patterns, to the point of even predicting their purchase intentions. Specifically, Artificial Intelligence, the collection and interpretation of data (Big Data), are the basis for offering unique and increasingly personalized experiences to the user.

By combining business intelligence with video surveillance, retailers can detect suspicious buying patterns, identify areas of risk and proactively prevent internal and external fraud. In addition, this data integration can help optimize product disposition, improve customer experience and increase overall business profitability.

Access control: securing entry points

Access control is an essential element in ensuring the security of both employees and customers in the retail environment. By implementing advanced access control systems, retailers can restrict access to sensitive areas, such as warehouses and security wings, to ensure that only authorized personnel can access them.

In addition to physical security, access control systems can also improve operational efficiency by facilitating personnel management and work schedule tracking. This integration of security and human resources management optimizes productivity and minimizes the risk of unauthorized access.

Systems integration: how to maximize the efficiency of your systems

Last but not least, system integration is essential to ensure that all security solutions work efficiently and cohesively. By integrating all infrastructure security systems, retailers can get a complete picture of what is going on in their facilities.

This integration not only involves security management and monitoring, but also improves incident response capabilities by providing a complete view of the situation in real time. Whether to prevent theft, detect fraud or improve the customer experience, systems integration is the key to maximizing the effectiveness of security measures in the retail sector.

In summary, retail security solutions are rapidly evolving to meet the growing demands for protection and efficiency. From video surveillance to business intelligence, access control and systems integration, these tools are helping retailers improve security, streamline operations and deliver an exceptional shopping experience for their customers. With a sound security strategy and careful implementation of these innovative solutions, retailers can protect their business and thrive in an increasingly competitive and changing environment.

10 physical security trends for 2024

10 physical security trends for 2024

Physical security is a field that requires constant updating. If you have a company, you probably know what we are talking about. Keeping your assets effectively protected and ensuring a 100% secure environment for workers requires keeping abreast of the latest trends.

In this post we reveal which are set to become the top 10 trends in physical security in 2024.

What is physical security?

For those who are not clear about what it is, physical security is a set of measures and policies designed to protect people, assets and facilities from possible damage or attack.

Preventive or reactive, these measures encompass a wide variety of different techniques and technologies. In the end, the main objective of physical security is to prevent or mitigate the risk of unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, espionage or even violence.

Trends in physical security

But what are the trends in physical security for 2024? Take note:

This year will therefore see a significant improvement in threat detection and incident response. We warned you at the time that the union between AI and video surveillance was a vision of the future, remember?

Cloud storage

Another trend that we have also talked about on occasion is cloud recording, and more and more companies are opting for this physical security measure.

This is probably because the migration of systems to cloud-based solutions allows them to manage their security recordings much more flexibly. In addition, they can do it from anywhere in the world.

Improved biometric authentication

In 2024, biometrics, including facial or fingerprint recognition, will become even more sophisticated.

There will be few companies left that do not adopt this system for their access control, because it is the most appropriate method to provide robust and personalized physical security.

The link between video surveillance and cybersecurity

recognition of enrollment

As security systems become increasingly connected, protecting these systems against cyber attacks becomes a priority.

We already told you that there were many reasons to update your software and protect yourself from these threats, but in 2024 the link between video surveillance and cybersecurity is going to get even stronger.

Advanced and real-time video analysis

The advancement of AI is also going to empower much more comprehensive and real-time video surveillance analysis.

This will allow us to identify suspicious behavior, abandoned objects or other risky situations much more quickly.

Focus on business continuity

Most of today’s physical security solutions focus on the same thing: helping organizations prepare to respond to emergencies.

Without these measures, business continuity in the face of extreme threats – such as pandemics, natural disasters or even terrorist attacks – would be quite complicated.

Use of video surveillance for logistics traceability

Video surveillance will be adopted by companies in all sectors seeking to improve their physical security. For example, the use of video surveillance is expected to increase for logistics traceability of goods, an area in which it is really useful.

Pinhole cameras in ATMs or vulnerable spaces

Video surveillance for ATM fraud prevention is more than necessary. Criminals are perfecting their methods and banks can only respond in kind: by using innovative physical security solutions.

Pinhole cameras, for example, are a popular trend inside ATMs because they are invisible and provide very detailed images.

video surveillance cameras in vulnerable areas

Centralized control through system integration platform

In the year 2024, the management of all physical security measures of a company will be centralized in a single system, in a single software. This is something that SCATI has been doing for some time now.

4 reasons why access control is key to the security of your business

You have probably entered a company or premises with an access control system in place. When we arrive at such a place, we have no doubt about its high level of security, right?

Access control systems were created precisely for that purpose: to maximize the security and privacy of any company. If you run a business, you will already know that they are key elements of business security.

From SCATI, in this post we tell you why it is so important to choose the right type of access control in your company.

Scati Access Readers

What is access control?

You already know that it represents a crucial facet of enterprise security, but what exactly is access control?

Well, it is a physical and digital barrier that safeguards an organization’s most valuable resources. This system, essential in today’s modern security landscape, is designed to manage and monitor the flow of people and vehicles in a given space.

Thus, access control makes use of various technologies and processes to ensure that only authorized individuals can enter or leave a facility or access specific areas within it. It also determines when such access can be given, or under what requirements. And we are not only talking about physical facilities, but also about digital areas.

Why is access control important to ensure corporate security?

At this point, surely you already know that access control in companies should not be underestimated, right? By choosing a good access control system for your company, you can:

Access control for companies

Protecting your assets

In every company there are critical areas that safeguard valuable assets, whether physical or digital. From expensive equipment to strategic information, it is critical to protect these assets from potential external or internal threats.

What access control ensures is that only authorized persons can access these specific resources. And thanks to these access limitations, you can significantly reduce the risk of loss, damage or misuse of your corporate assets. It is the best way to contribute to the equity integrity of your company.

Prevent theft and vandalism

Theft is one of the major risks to which any type of building, corporate or otherwise, is exposed. But fortunately, the presence of an access control system can serve as a deterrent to all kinds of criminal activity, such as theft, intrusion or even vandalism.

In addition, these systems have the ability to track and record every entry and exit, making it easy for your company to identify suspicious behavior, and if you want to react quickly to a threat and maintain a safe working environment for everyone, they are the perfect solution.

Comply with regulations and standards

If you read our article on how data protection laws affect video surveillance, you already know that the security field is becoming increasingly regulated. And work access control is precisely a tool that can help you comply with many labor regulations and also with strict security standards.

Not only will you avoid possible sanctions and fines, but you will also be strengthening your company’s commitment, image and credibility. Do you already understand the enormous importance of access controls?

Flexibility and facial recognition: the keys to securing a large sports complex (Brazil).

Flexibility and facial recognition: the keys to securing a large sports complex (Brazil).

Brazil’s most modern soccer stadium protects its facilities with a flexible solution based on facial recognition.

    CHALLENGE

With a capacity of more than 40,000 people, this soccer stadium is one of the main stadiums in Brazil, and also has a training and education center for athletes, located 15 km from the stadium.

This project had two main objectives: to secure the infrastructures and to obtain valuable information about those attending the sporting events.

On the one hand, the end customer was looking for total protection of the stadium and the athlete training and education center. Specifically, they wanted to control tickets and automate access, but, above all, one of the main needs was to control fans who had been sanctioned and prevent their access to the stadium.

On the other hand, the marketing department of the sports club needed to to obtain information on fans and partners. In order to to increase profitability and profits, video surveillance systems were needed to provide data on locations and traffic frequencies in different areas, so that the system could be used to monitor the traffic in different areas. to be able to apply business intelligence.

With these two objectives in mind, the project was designed around one main purpose: the need for the selected system to be flexible and adaptable so that it could integrate previously installed video surveillance equipment and devices from various manufacturers.

    reconocimiento-facial-estadio-scati

In this project, SCATI competed with four of the world’s leading manufacturers of video surveillance systems, and its facial recognition and license plate reading solution was finally chosen to protect this large installation. The SCATI solution, apart from being the most flexible of the systems proposed to expand the installation, is the one that obtained the best practical results in the tests carried out.

    SOLUTION

The installed solution is composed of a series of differentiating elements, which make it unique and totally unique adapted to the needs of the end customer. Specifically, the video surveillance system consists of 300 cameras from different manufacturers, all centrally managed by the innovative video management platforms from SCATI.

In addition to managing existing cameras from other manufacturers, new cameras for facial recognition and license plate reading will be added to the project.

Thus, more than 30 SCATI facial recognition cameras (SDLI-3601VR-EMXA8) are installed at each of the 12 access points of the stadium and the training center, but also in other corridors, the stadium store and other key points.

    cámara-videovigilancia-cctv-seguridad

The SDLI-3601VR-EMXA8 camera offers high resolution images under any lighting conditions. This is made possible by built-in infrared illumination up to 60 meters. Despite the large number of people in the stadium, these cameras are able to identify the different people attending the games or the training center. Thanks to the installation of this type of camera with analytics, the club can provide additional security for its visitors, athletes and employees: it is possible to identify troublemakers and prevent them from entering the stadium.

All this is possible thanks to the classification into authorized and unauthorized persons. Thanks to SCATI’s solution, up to 60 faces per second can be captured, identifying incoming fans as well as crowds.

When an unwanted person is identified, the system sends an automatic alarm with an associated image and video to the security officer. In the same way, they can locate any person or event in a matter of seconds in order to provide a rapid response to any eventuality, as well as collaborate with the authorities if necessary.

    cctv-videovigilancia-cámara

On the other hand, in order to control vehicle access to the stadium and training center facilities, other cameras with analytics are installed: LPR (License Plate Recognition) reading cameras. Specifically, the SDLC-3511VR-XYM2-LPR model allows to monitor all vehicle entrances and exits to the facilities, as well as to automate them. In this way, when an authorized vehicle is about to enter through one of the entrances, the system automatically reads its license plate and allows it to enter, without the need for human intervention. This minimizes waiting time and increases visitor satisfaction, while saving on costs.

As mentioned above, in addition to these SCATI analytical cameras and other newly installed cameras for perimeter control, one of the main requirements of the project was the flexibility of the system. Since the end customer had a pre-existing system composed of elements from other manufacturers, the installed solution must allow centralized and flexible management of all the elements of the system. This includes both legacy and new servers and systems, with a total management of more than 300 cameras.

Managing this large number of diverse system elements is made possible by SCATI’s innovative video management platforms. These platforms are specifically designed for projects that require scalable and professional solutions. Specifically, the platform chosen in this project incorporates the latest Business Intelligence tools that facilitate decision making and, in addition, allows the management of the CCTV system from anywhere and at any time, either from a fixed or mobile device.

The information and images produced by the systems are stored locally through SCATI’s powerful recording servers installed at strategic points in the sports complex. Specifically, the recording servers chosen in this case were from the Kraken Series.

SCATI KRAKEN are recording platforms designed for large security projects, which require efficient management of hundreds of cameras (up to 256 each) with maximum reliability and availability. In addition, it has redundancy of its main hardware elements (storage, power supplies or network cards), to maximize uninterrupted operation in case of possible eventualities.

Toda esta instalación se gestiona desde el centro de control instalado en el estadio, donde el personal de seguridad puede visionar desde un videowall las imágenes y recibir avisos ante cualquier evento que pueda ocurrir.

    BENEFITS

This soccer club is one of the most innovative in Latin America, with the most modern stadium in Brazil and one of the safest in the region.

With the installation of the advanced facial recognition and license plate reading system, visitors, athletes and workers can be identified, thus facilitating safe and fast access to key areas. Moreover, thanks to biometric face recognition of people in conflict, a safe and secure sporting experience is offered to everyone entering the stadium as well as the training and education center. With all this, the club’s marketing team has achieved its goal: to obtain valuable information about the attendees. With this data, they can increase your profitability, they allow them to know where visitors spend the most time, as well as what type of attendee profile visits stores and food and beverage outlets.

In addition, thanks to the flexibility and adaptability of SCATI’s systems, the end customer has been able to retain the pre-existing systems and manage them centrally.

SCATI’s innovative facial recognition systems installed for one of Brazil’s most important soccer clubs once again puts its technology at the forefront and enables the club to offer a safe and secure sporting experience”,

says Fabio Fara, SCATI’s KAM in Brazil.

SCATI is a company specialized in tailoring its solutions developed to customers’ needs. Thanks to the great adaptability of SCATI’s systems, it has been possible to offer a solution that fully meets the needs of this great soccer club.

5 reasons to upgrade your software: protect your surveillance system from cyberthreats

The many advantages that technology has brought to our lives are clear to us, but what about the disadvantages? Because it is clear that all software entails some risk: without going any further, there are more and more types of cyber threats.

Even our video surveillance systems, which we created precisely to strengthen business security, can become a security threat if they are not used and protected properly. In this regard, keeping software up to date is essential, although many businesses overlook it.

If you belong to the latter group, in this article we will explain the 5 reasons why you should upgrade your surveillance system.

    Main cyber threats

We call a malicious action that occurs in the digital environment a cyber threat. Although they may vary in complexity and severity, they all represent significant risks to information security and the integrity of computer systems.

Among the most widespread are, for example, malware, ransomware, phishing, Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks, Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks or Zero-day Exploit. Sound familiar?

What is the risk of not updating the software?

As time goes by, we learn to protect ourselves from all these cyber threats, but technological advances are also the perfect breeding ground for new ones to emerge. Hence, protection should always be considered an ongoing activity.

And, as we have already mentioned, updating your software is one of the necessary tasks to guarantee this protection.

What happens if you do not update it? Well, by not doing so…

    • You leave open many security patches or vulnerabilities that can lead to cyber attacks.
    • You run the risk that your programs will no longer be compatible with new versions of other tools, plugins or operating systems.
    • You decrease the performance of your video surveillance system.
    • You decrease the performance of your video surveillance system.
    • You give your customers the feeling that you are not committed to their safety.
    • You may break the law and be sanctioned.

    Reasons to upgrade your software

As you can see, if you have a video surveillance system in your business it is essential that you keep it up to date. After all, the networks over which a CCTV system transmits its data will never be completely secure, but we can do our best to make them so.

End-to-end encryption is the most effective method of protecting data, but it must be combined with constant updating.

Of course, security is not the only reason why you should upgrade your system. Let’s give you 5 more reasons:
